Author and historian, Joyce Hilliard Stotts, grew up in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties of Kansas. She earned a B.S. from Emporia State University in 1970 and taught junior/senior high school English and Social Studies in Topeka, Kansas. Joyce then earned an M.S. degree from Kansas University and worked as an Instructional Designer/Technical Writer for FlightSafety International in Wichita, Kansas. A member of various professional writers’ groups, including SCBWI, Kansas Authors Club, Dunedin (Florida) Writers Group, and Emporia Writers Group, she is passionate about writing. In 2023, Joyce renovated two historic buildings in downtown Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, which now serve as a vacation home and commercial space. Currently, she is a partner in a family business, Spice of the Harbor, in Safety Harbor, Florida, where she spends part of the year. Her published works include children's books, short stories featured in Dunedin Writers Group Anthologies, a novella (now out of print), and a family genealogy, all available on Amazon. Joyce's upcoming historical novel, Rodantha's Road, is set to be published in 2025.

Experience pioneer life as Rodantha and William Hywell journey west by covered wagon on the National Road in 1856, and then strike out westward to the Kansas Territory on the Santa Fe Trail. This historical novel by Joyce Hilliard Stotts vibrates with everyday details and fantastic stories, making it a wonderful addition to children's books that explore real-life settings and events.

This delightful rhyming read-aloud story is perfect for ages 3 through 6 and fits beautifully among beloved children's books. It narrates the tale of a little cricket who dreams of singing with the Full Moon Orchestra. Suzette resides in an ancient oak tree in Safety Harbor, Florida. This charming story, reminiscent of historical novels, is one that everyone in town will want to share with their children and grandchildren.

This delightful read-aloud story, perfect for ages 3 - 6, offers a fun experience for both the reader and the listener. Anyone who has ever worn glasses will appreciate this gentle rhyming tale by Joyce Hilliard Stotts about a little girl who is getting her first pair. Her new glasses not only bring the world sharply into focus but also lead to unexpected consequences, making it a charming addition to any collection of children's books.

Three of my short stories are included in the annual Dunedin Writers Group Anthology, featuring a mix of genres including children's books and historical novels. They are: Bored of the Flies in 2019, Penny-a-Bale in 2021, and Just Joy 1946 in 2022. I designed the cover of the 2022 Anthology pictured here. These Anthologies showcase the best writing from the Tampa Bay area, and all are available on Amazon.
